Photographers are often restricted to press tours and kept well back from the zero line, as the first line is known.
That is not so much for lack of trying, but because of the difficulty of access to the front lines. Yet for all the wealth of film and photographs to come out of the war, there have been significant gaps - most notably, a shortage of combat photography. The news coverage from Ukraine has been so intense and widespread over the past 16 months that it may seem that the war has been covered to the point of saturation.
